Quick overview

This skill finds the websites that link to your competitors but not to you, and hands them over as an outreach list rather than a research project. Every prospect on it links to all of the competitors you named — not just one — so relevance is settled before anyone writes an email. Spam domains are scored and dropped first, and what’s left arrives sorted by how worth pursuing it is, with the authority, link type and history you need to decide where to start.

Who it’s built for

For link-building teams, SEO agencies and freelancers who actually do outreach, and who are tired of exporting three tools into a spreadsheet to work out the overlap by hand. Also useful when pitching: a gap list is a concrete, believable opening argument.

What you get

  • A prospect list, not a data set. Sorted, filtered and ready to work down from the top.
  • Relevance already established. Every site on the list links to every competitor you named, which is a much stronger signal than linking to one of them.
  • Spam removed before you see it. Domains are scored and the dirty ones dropped, so nobody spends a morning on a link farm.
  • Authority, link type and how long the link has existed on every row, so you can tell a live editorial relationship from a directory entry.
  • Blanks where nothing could be measured — never a zero standing in for unknown, which is what keeps the ranking honest.
  • A note per row on why that site is worth approaching.

What you need to get started

  • DataForSEO account and your API credentials.
  • Claude Code, with the DataForSEO connection added once.
  • The Competitor Backlink Gap skill installed.
  • Your domain and three to five competitors you want compared against it.

Workflow breakdown

  • You give your domain and the competitors to compare against.
  • Their backlink profiles are read and intersected, so what surfaces is the set of sites linking to all of them rather than any one of them.
  • Sites that already link to you are removed — this is a gap list, not an audit of what you have.
  • Every remaining domain is scored for spam, and anything over your threshold is dropped.
  • What’s left is scored on authority, link type and how established the link is, then sorted so the best prospects are at the top.
  • You get a spreadsheet you can hand straight to whoever runs outreach.
