AI-generated content in Google search results is growing and it’s becoming increasingly visual. That’s why we’re expanding the depth and structure of AI-generated elements within Google SERP API responses to support richer SERP feature formats.
What’s new
Google SERP API (Organic and AI Mode) has been enriched with several new fields and item types that add greater detail to AI-generated content.
1 Items with "type": "ai_overview" now have a "markdown" field that gives you direct access to the AI-generated content in markdown format.
2 Items with "type": "ai_overview_element" support a "markdown" field and a "links" field that returns structured URLs and metadata from the AI content.
3 New item types are now available within the items array of:
➤ "ai_overview",
➤ "people_also_ask_ai_overview_expanded_element”,
➤ "knowledge_graph_ai_overview_item".
Here’s the list of the item types added:
➤ "ai_overview_expanded_element" which has its own components called "ai_overview_expanded_component";
➤ "ai_overview_video_element" containing AI-curated video content with metadata and playback sources;
➤ "ai_overview_table_element" which offers structured tabular data generated by Google’s AI.
Why it matters
These improvements allow you to obtain markdown-formatted AI content, parse source references with precision, and identify more AI-generated elements like tables and videos.
