Google Trends API Limits and Restrictions

DataForSEO Google Trends API provides valuable search trend data, but operates within certain limitations to ensure reliable data retrieval and system stability. These limitations are primarily driven by Google Trends’ capacity constraints rather than DataForSEO’s infrastructure.

Rate Limits and Restrictions

1. Per-minute rate limit in Live endpoint.

You may receive limit-related errors if you exceed 250 Live Google Trends Explore tasks sent to our system within a 60-second window. To avoid these errors:

  • Implement rate limiting in your application;
  • Distribute requests evenly throughout the hour.

2. System-wide daily requests limit.

DataForSEO system is limited to 500,000 total requests per day across all Google Trends API endpoints and all DataForSEO users. This is a shared limit that applies to our entire system and our entire user base collectively, not per individual account. To avoid these errors:

  • Spread requests over multiple days rather than attempting to collect all data at once;
  • Plan ahead for large-scale data collection projects.

Why These Limitations Exist

DataForSEO’s limitations for Google Trends requests come from the constrains of Google Trends’ own service:

  1. Google Trends cannot handle high request volumes and stops returning results when under heavy loads;
  2. During peak loads, even Google Trends’ web interface becomes unresponsive (which you can sometimes observe in Incognito mode)

You should also understand that on our side these limits are based on extensive testing to identify the optimal threshold for reliable data retrieval.
