How to search for brand mentions within fan-out queries and brand entities

With the LLM Mentions API, you can surface data on brand mentions that are present in fan-out queries and brand entities of ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. In this guide, we explain how you can customize requests to do that and what insights you will receive.
What are fan-out queries and brand entities?
➤ Fan-out queries are automatically generated searches related to the main keyword that an LLM can perform to gather more comprehensive context or access up-to-date data. The fan-out queries show how an LLM expands the initial topic to retrieve additional information for a more relevant response.
➤ Brand entities are special entity types in LLM responses that contain structured information about the mentioned brands. These entities allow ChatGPT to more accurately represent brands in its responses, distinguishing them from generic terms.
Both of these features can carry keyword mentions of specific brands, products, or services that an LLM considers relevant to the response. We enabled the endpoints of the LLM Mentions API to retrieve mentions data from fan-out queries and brand entities in a granular and aggregated format.
Fetching mentions data from fan-out queries and brand entities
Customizing requests for retrieving mentions from fan-out queries or brand entities is simple. In the keyword entity of the target array, you should specify the target keyword’s search_scope either with fan_out_queries or brand_entities string.
The search_scope parameter determines which part of the LLM response will be analyzed for keyword mentions. When set to fan_out_queries, the system searches within the fan-out query text. When set to brand_entities, it searches within brand entity data.
